IES Resources | Operations

IES Resources has operations in two primary areas – Bulk Transport and Quarry Products.

Bulk Transport Division
The Bulk Transport division of IES Resources is focused on the provision of transport logistics services to major mining projects. The division operates under long term contracts, usually for the entirety of an individual mine’s life, and specialises in the movement of mineral ore, concentrate, heavy media rejects and quarry products.

At any given time IES Resources will be moving product using up to 60 quad and trip road train combinations. The division has seven depots located at Cloncurry, Mount Isa, Osborne, Mount Garnet, Charters Towers and Townsville in North Queensland, and at Bootu Creek in the Northern Territory.

Customers of the Bulk Transport Division include blue chip resources companies such as BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Barrick Gold, Kagara and OM Manganese.

Quarry Products Division
The Quarry Products Division is focussed on the provision of road base materials used in the construction of mine haul roads and is the only provider of A-Grade Road base material in North Queensland for Queensland Main Roads and the only supplier of ballast in the region for Queensland Rail.

The primary asset of the division is the Castlereagh Quarry, located approximately seven kilometres north of Cloncurry in North Western Queensland. This quarry has a remaining life of over 150 years based on current production levels. The Quarry Division utilises the following primary crushing facilities:

  • A 200 tonne per hour crushing plant located at, and sourcing its product from, the Castlereagh Quarry.
  • An 80 tonne per hour sealing and concrete aggregates crushing plant located at Powerhouse Road. This plant sources its product from the Castlereagh Quarry as well as quarries located at the Cloncurry River and the Leichhardt River.
The division delivers its products to customers using trucks located at the Cloncurry depot.
