Gary IresonGeneral Manager, IES Resources  
After 20 years in the downstream energy industry working for a large industrial conglomerate, Wesfarmers, Gary has been appointed as the General Manager of the IES Resources division.  

Most recently he has been working as a consultant specialising in downstream gaseous fuels and transport logistics.  

His career commenced with Wesfarmers as the Works Engineer of the Kleenheat gas business and he rose to the position of General Manager in 1996 at the age of 32. He went on to have a number of other senior roles with responsibility for Wesfarmers’ gas and power interests in his most recent corporate position as Director, Gas and Power for Wesfarmers Energy.  

Gary has been affiliated with the ALPGA for over 10 years. He was a Council member since 1996, board member from 1999 and President from 2004-2006.  

He completed Program for Management Development (PMD) at the Graduate School of Business Administration at Harvard University and holds a Certificate in Financial Management from Australian Institute of Management. He is also a Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia.



Bernie SchwarzRegional Operations Manager East / West
Bernie joined IES Resources in the position of Regional Operations Manager in 2007 and is based in Townsville. His role encompasses all operations from Townsville in Queensland through to Bootu Creek in the Northern Territory. Bernie has over 20 years experience with a number of major mining companies including WMC and MIM and more recently managed WMC’s fertilizer and sulphuric acid supply chain and port operations.


Harry LingHuman Resources Manager, IES Resources
Harry Ling joined IES Resources as Human Resources Manager in 2006. He has a background in the building industry, having worked for his family’s company and Pioneer Concrete as a plant manager after graduation from Macquarie University as an economist. Subsequently, Harry worked in both outdoor and traditional education whilst completing Masters qualifications from Wollongong University. His passion for improvements in company culture were honed whilst working in the field of human resources during his appointment as Deputy Principal at Townsville Grammar School. Harry continues to enjoy academia and also has studied and gained a Certificate in Theology (Hons) from Moore College. He embraces the challenges of working in a company committed to high standards in all facets of operation and ensuring that the culture, recruitment and retention policies at IES Resources represent best practice in the transport industry.



Larry BattenCompliance & Systems Manager
Larry began his career in the transport industry in 1978 at the age of 19 years working for McIver Transport in Dalby, South East Queensland. In 1997, after successfully operating road trains for nearly 20 years, Larry began to expand his career into driver training and risk management. He continued to fulfil this position following the sale of McIver Transport to Mitchell Australia in 2002, before taking on the North Queensland Operations Manager role in September 2005. This position was held until the successful acquisition and integration of Mitchell East Pty Ltd to IES Resources in November 2006. Since joining the IES team Larry has been responsible for the management of health, safety, security and environmental compliance, training and company systems, a job that calls on him to utilise much of the knowledge and skills he has obtained throughout 30 years associated with the transport industry.



Charlie PhillottWestern Area Manager, IES Resources
Charlie first joined Kiernan Transport in 1993 as a plant operator for six months on a project involving the sourcing and supply of roadbase product. He returned to the company in February 1997 as a loader operator at Cloncurry and took up the job of Crusher Manager later that year. Charlie was promoted to Quarry Manager when Kiernan began crushing at their new quarry in 2000 and remained in that position until early 2002. In March 2006 he was appointed Operations Manager at Cloncurry for IES Resources, then assumed role of Western Area manager in December of that year.
